MIND BODY PRACTICES
WELCOME If you are in this page then you are curious about mind body practices or maybe you are already a practitioner. In my clinical practice of psychiatry, I have been very focused on the mind. I would try to understand it as an entity by itself. I think a lot of us think the mind and the body are very separate. How and what we think does not have any impact on the body. The diseases of the body have no impact on the mind. Is that true? I invite you to explore this with me. Think about when something that is very stressful for you now. How does your mind feel? Does it feel like a lot of thoughts are moving very quickly? Does it feel like the mind is going around in circles and it feels like there is no way out? Now concentrate on your body. You might notice your breath is shallow. You might notice your stomach does not feel settled. You might also feel tightness in your shoulders or neck. You might think these responses are independent of each other. In modern day life when we are constantly running from one thing to another we are not noticing what is going on in our mind or our body. We might call everything we experience stress. We might not even feel the stress until it is quite high. Let us now explore the idea what can be done about this? We all have a mind and a body which is with us every day that we will be on this earth. They are not organized to function independently of each other. When we are not paying attention due to stress, illness or any other factor we lose our mind body connection. This leads to more stress and the cycle continues. Later on, this leads to high BP, high cholesterol, heart disease and a lot of chronic condition. If I have made you curious and you would like to explore some of these practices with me please read the next article on breath.
